There are two parts to the scheme;

The Feed-In Tariff
Now rewarding owners of solar power systems for 25 years!

The “Feed in Tariff” is a bit of a misleading title. It is really a Generation Tarrif where you get paid for every unit of energy you generate, plus a bit extra for any surplus units you "feed in" to the grid. Feed in Tariffs are designed to reward owners of photo-voltaic (PV) solar panels with tax-free, cash payments made directly to you, every year for 25 years from your utility company for every kilowatt hour of electricity you produce. The Feed-In-Tariff started in April 2010

The Renewable Heat Incentive
Will reward owners of Air Source Heat Pumps and Solar Hot water systems for up to 20 years!

The “Renewable Heat Incentive” is a scheme designed to reward owners of renewable enery heating systems like solar hot water (solar thermal) and air source heat pumps with tax-free, cash payments made directly to you, for 20 years from Ofgem. The DECC have confirmed that the Renewable Heat Incentive will launch in June 2011 with details of the scheme expected to be published in December 2010. Its also expected that any system installed between July 2009 and then will be eligible for payments.
